Rockstar Games has indicated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not include a direct parody of Walt Disney World, despite featuring a detailed recreation of Florida, dubbed Leonida. In a comprehensive preview published by Game Informer, Rockstar's senior vice president of environment art, Paul MacPherson, addressed inquiries about the inclusion of specific central Florida locations such as Orlando and Disney World.
"We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations, and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs," MacPherson explained. "So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!"
This statement suggests that while players may not find an exact replica of Disney World or Orlando, the game's developers have focused on capturing the overall atmosphere and essence of Florida. The developers are prioritizing elements that best serve the game's narrative and design needs.
However, the possibility remains that some aspects of central or eastern Florida, such as a theme park or a space operations base, might be represented in some capacity. A Minnie Mouse-style character was observed in gameplay reveals, potentially linked to "Fred's Pictures," an in-universe company reminiscent of Disney, first mentioned in Grand Theft Auto V. This hints that elements inspired by Disney might still be present.
Official marketing materials have confirmed the inclusion of a large alligator-themed park, strongly resembling the real-world Gatorland located south of Orlando. This suggests that Rockstar is not overlooking central Florida but is instead incorporating inspired versions of its distinctive locations into the game's world.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Players will soon be able to explore the expansive map of Leonida and its unique, Florida-inspired environments.
