Grave Seasons Drops New Release Date, Showcases Gothic Decor and Seasonal Progression

Indie studio Perfect Garbage has announced a new release date for its horror-themed farm-sim, Grave Seasons. Originally slated for an August release, the game was delayed, but is now set to launch on March 9, 2027. The announcement came during the Cozy After Dark showcase, which also provided a glimpse into the game's autumnal setting and progression systems.

Grave Seasons distinguishes itself with a narrative-driven approach, centering on a recently released convict who relocates to a small village. Each main storyline focuses on a supernatural serial killer within the community, with the player's quest to stop them unfolding over one in-game year. Upon the year's end, the story concludes, but players can start a new cycle, with their farm and decoration progress carrying over.

Narrative director Emmett Nahil showcased the game's extensive customization options, including a full set of gothic farmhouse furniture featuring plush red cushions and deep purple wallpaper, creating a distinctly atmospheric interior. The exterior of the farmhouse also sports a moody aesthetic with wine-red paint and dark wooden detailing, enhanced by trailing plants. Customization extends to other farm buildings, such as a chicken coop adorned with vines and lights.

Perfect Garbage aims to make each season feel distinct, and autumn is depicted with vibrant foliage, sprouting mushrooms in the woods, and autumnal crops. The game introduces an unsettling element of surprise, as demonstrated by the farmer unearthing a detached eyeball while tilling a field, alongside appetizing radishes. The fall season also features harvestable deadly herbs and the Nocturne Faire, a festival with mulled wine and cider stalls, and a kiosk selling straw dolls.

Previously, Nahil and Perfect Garbage co-founder Son M stated that these elements are intended to push the boundaries of cozy gaming, subverting expectations and making darker themes more approachable. Grave Seasons is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
