A modder known as M0jso, who had gained significant attention for their work on a Grand Theft Auto 5 port for the Nintendo Switch, has reversed course and canceled the project. This decision followed a period of public boasting and taunting directed at Rockstar Games, the publisher of GTA 5.
M0jso had been sharing progress on the Switch port, including footage of the game running at a stable 30 frames-per-second in Los Santos. The modder had expressed confidence in completing the project, even promising to enable GTA Online functionality and its Cayo Perico heist. This success led M0jso to publicly challenge Rockstar Games on social media platform X, stating, "Try me rockstar... idgaf."
However, the situation took a turn when M0jso's dedicated Discord server was terminated due to copyright infringement. The modder initially expressed surprise, commenting on the perceived lack of copyright enforcement in Serbia and referring to the country as a "third world shithole." Despite this, M0jso claimed to be unfazed by potential legal action from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two.
Less than a week after their defiant posts, M0jso announced the project's cancellation and the disbandment of their production banner. This abrupt change was attributed to receiving a cease and desist letter. M0jso acknowledged underestimating the situation and Take-Two's litigious nature, admitting to having been "too cocky" and realizing the futility of fighting the company in court. The modder stated that they "didn't know what I was getting into" and that boasting online would have complicated any potential legal defense.
