A modder who was porting Grand Theft Auto V to the Nintendo Switch has received a cease and desist order from Take-Two Interactive after taunting Rockstar Games. The modder, known as Mojso, had been working on unofficial versions of GTA V and GTA Online for modified Nintendo Switch consoles.
Mojso reportedly taunted Rockstar Games on social media following the company's release of new modding guidelines, which explicitly forbid unofficial ports. The modder posted, "Try me Rockstar, [I don't give a f**k.]"
Shortly after this challenge, Mojso's Discord server was taken down due to copyright infringement. Despite warnings from others about Rockstar and Take-Two's litigious nature, the modder expressed little concern, citing the lack of copyright enforcement in Serbia. However, within a week, Mojso confirmed receiving a cease and desist letter from Take-Two Interactive.
In response, Mojso announced the shutdown of their project, "Paralympics Productions," citing gratitude for Take-Two's "mercy" and stating a desire to avoid legal issues. Reflecting on the earlier taunt, Mojso admitted to not expecting such a strong reaction, saying, "They tried me... [What the] f**k [do] you want me to do? Fight with them in court? I wasn't expecting them to hit back hard."
The port was being developed using leaked GTA V source code, which has previously been linked to other leaks and issues concerning the game. The incident serves as a cautionary tale against provoking major corporations known for protecting their intellectual property.
