The creator behind a planned Nintendo Switch port of Grand Theft Auto 5 has announced the project's cancellation just days before its scheduled release. The modder, known as Mojso, stated on X that Paralympics Productions is shutting down on October 3rd, citing a cease-and-desist letter from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games.
Mojso had been sharing progress updates, including gameplay clips and screenshots, of the port running on Nintendo's hardware for several weeks. The announcement comes approximately a week after Rockstar updated its modding policy, which explicitly prohibits porting Grand Theft Auto games to other platforms. This policy update was directly challenged by Mojso, who had publicly taunted Rockstar on social media with a post stating, "Try me, Rockstar. IDGAF."
Following the cease-and-desist notice, Mojso expressed gratitude for what they described as "Take Two's mercy," indicating a desire to avoid legal conflict. "I’m not an idiot to go against Take-Two," Mojso explained, acknowledging that pursuing the project further could lead to a lawsuit. The modder also stated they cannot release any of the port's code or assets to others, as doing so would also expose them to potential legal action from the publisher.
Mojso conceded that they likely would not have prevailed in a legal battle against Take-Two, recognizing the publisher's strong legal standing and their own previous defiant statements as evidence of "real intent for ‘mayhem.'" In response to the situation, Mojso later posted, "They tried me. Fuck you want me to do? Fight with them in court? I wasn’t expecting them to hit back hard."
