Grand Theft Auto VI features an astonishing 600,000 unique animations, a figure that dwarfs its predecessors. Rockstar Games confirmed that this number is more than ten times the 55,000 animations found in Grand Theft Auto V and double the 300,000 animations present in Red Dead Redemption 2. This significant increase underscores the ambition and scale of the upcoming title.
Rockstar North art director and studio co-head Aaron Garbut highlighted the meticulous attention to detail that accompanied this animation effort. He explained that developers considered minute aspects for every room in the game, including who might be sitting where, what they might be drinking, and the subtle marks left on surfaces. Even the pictures on the walls are designed to reflect the inhabitants of a particular room, with tattoos and family depictions incorporated into the environment. This level of granular detail, reportedly photographed and placed within individual buildings across the vast city, contributes to the immersive quality of the game world.
The recent GTA 6 showcase also revealed other significant enhancements, including a revamped Wanted system and deeper narrative possibilities for the game's central couple. The sheer volume of animations points to a significantly more dynamic and lifelike world than players have experienced in previous Rockstar titles.
