Law enforcement in Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature enhanced capabilities, including the deployment of K9 units to track down players. A recent preview detailed by Edge Magazine showcased a scenario where police dispatch dogs to pursue protagonists Jason and Lucia after a motorcycle crash.
During the preview, as Jason and Lucia attempted to flee on foot from pursuing officers, a K9 unit was called in. A German Shepherd quickly engaged Jason, pinning him to the ground. Developers present during the preview reportedly advised the player not to shoot the dog, suggesting that while it's an option, it might not be the intended approach.
This K9 functionality aligns with the game's expanded criminal pursuit systems. Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a six-star Wanted system and a more robust criminal profile system, enabling police to track players more effectively. The game will also notify players if they have been spotted by CCTV cameras, offering the opportunity to destroy evidence to evade detection. Furthermore, police will retain knowledge of the clothing worn by Jason and Lucia, requiring players to change attire to escape pursuit.
In separate GTA 6 news, a recent episode of South Park featured new gameplay footage showing Jason throwing dog feces at another character and then using the collected feces to strike them. Players will also have the ability to interact with dogs, with options to pet or scold them.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games is expected to release Grand Theft Auto 6 Online and a PC version in early 2027.
