The release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, currently set for November 19, could still be subject to further delays, according to a former Rockstar Games developer. Mike York, who worked as an animator on Grand Theft Auto 5 before leaving the company in 2017, stated that based on his experience, he "would not be shocked at all" if Rockstar chose to postpone the game's launch again.

York indicated that Rockstar has the flexibility to adjust the release schedule as needed. "They could do whatever they want with GTA 6, including asking people to wait longer to play it," he told Indy100. "It doesn't matter. If they need to do what they need to do, they'll do it." He suggested that a delay of up to six months might be considered if the development team requires additional time to meet quality standards. "I would not be shocked at all. I don't think it would hurt them or anything," York added.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game has seen several date adjustments; it was initially planned for Fall 2025, then moved to May 2026, and subsequently to November 2026. Rockstar has previously cited the need for more time to improve the game's quality as the reason for these shifts.

Rockstar Games is scheduled to provide an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6 on August 27 via Netflix. This preview will be available on the streaming platform for six hours before being uploaded to Rockstar's YouTube channel.
