Fans of Grand Theft Auto VI are reportedly harassing the Florida-based Cypress Cove Resort, the apparent real-world inspiration for the game's nudist camp. The resort, which has operated since 1964 and bills itself as a family-friendly nudist retreat, has been targeted by pranksters leaving fake reviews on platforms like Google and Trip Advisor.
These fabricated reviews reference in-game events and characters from Grand Theft Auto VI, often presenting them as genuine guest experiences. For example, one review states, "Had a great time until a man pulled out his binoculars," an apparent allusion to leaked gameplay footage where a character zooms in on NPCs. Another vaguely noted being "troubled to hear about the incident that occurred in August," possibly referencing the game's leaks.
The owners of Cypress Cove have publicly denounced these reviews, labeling them as "spam/extortion." In a statement, they clarified that the references to "Jason Duval," "Lucia," binoculars, firearms, and other details are from the video game and not actual occurrences at their resort. They further stated that they would not pay any money to have these false reviews removed or altered, and have reported the activity to the appropriate authorities. The resort emphasized that these posts do not reflect genuine guest experiences and highlighted that Cypress Cove is in Florida, not the game's fictional state of Leonida.
Despite the influx of fake reviews, Cypress Cove Resort reportedly maintains a positive overall rating. Legitimate reviews describe the resort as providing an "incredible experience" with friendly guests and strong customer service. One Google review highlights it as a "family friendly place where you can bring your children or your mom or the entire family to enjoy the lake, the pool, the restaurant, the get togethers and dances in a friendly, nude environment."
