Fans of Grand Theft Auto VI are currently speculating that protagonist Jason may be the series' first openly neurodivergent character. This theory gained traction following a recent interview with Rupert Humphries, a writer at Rockstar Games.
In an interview with Love magazine, Humphries discussed the creation of Jason and Lucia's personalities. He described Jason as "wired differently," a statement that has become a focal point for fan interpretation. Humphries clarified that while Jason's actions, such as drug trafficking and bank robbery, are influenced by his circumstances, his decision-making might also stem from being "wired differently from other people." This comment is left open to player interpretation.
Fans have pointed to Jason's behavior in the game's extended gameplay reveal as evidence. They noted instances where he appears to miss social cues, such as an awkward handshake that he extends too long before retracting it when he realizes the other person is disengaged. His avoidance of eye contact with some characters and expressed anxiety about meeting a friend, stating a preference for firearms, have also been highlighted.
Some players interpret these traits as indicative of neurodivergence, suggesting Jason might experience social fatigue or engage in masking behaviors to fit in. However, others posit that Jason could simply be a reserved individual, perhaps influenced by his ex-military background, which might account for a more restrained demeanor.
With Grand Theft Auto VI less than 45 days from its release, Rockstar Games is preparing a substantial marketing campaign. This includes city-wide murals and advertisements in major locations like New York and Miami. Additionally, the Miami Heat NBA team will be rebranded as the "Vice City Heat" for one night on November 18, playing a regular-season game against the Bucks on a Vice City-themed court.
