Rockstar Games has confirmed that a feature in Grand Theft Auto VI was cut during development because it was deemed too realistic, though another lifelike detail is set to remain in the game. According to Rob Nelson, a representative from Rockstar Games, an in-depth system that would have allowed players to buy groceries and restock their in-game refrigerators was ultimately removed.

Nelson explained that the development team experimented with a grocery system where players could purchase items from stores to replenish their refrigerators. However, this mechanic was simplified to better balance realism with ease of play. This removed feature would have otherwise tied into another new gameplay element where characters' weight can change based on their diet, and their physical appearance and stamina are directly affected by their eating habits and exercise routines at the gym.

Despite the removal of the grocery system, players will still encounter realistic mechanics related to vehicle management. Grand Theft Auto VI will feature a system where players must refuel their cars with gasoline or recharge electric vehicles. According to YouTuber TGG, who visited Rockstar and observed gameplay, the refueling process at gas stations will be relatively quick, taking approximately 10 seconds and featuring its own animation. The cost of refueling is also expected to be minimal. Additionally, players will be able to repair their vehicles at these same gas stations.

Nelson indicated that Rockstar is aware that the refueling and recharging system might be a point of contention for some players. However, the studio intends to keep it, as it is designed to encourage strategic thinking. For instance, players will need to ensure their vehicles are adequately fueled before undertaking activities like getaways following a robbery, which is one of the game's income-generating activities. This contrasts with Grand Theft Auto V, where cars generally have unlimited fuel unless the gas tank is damaged, causing the vehicle to cease functioning. While mods for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V have introduced more realistic refueling mechanics, the system in GTA 6 will be an integral part of the base game.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is launching amidst significant anticipation and high expectations, with estimates suggesting that pre-orders alone could generate around $2 billion, potentially covering the entire production budget. The base edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is priced at $80, with an Ultimate Edition available for $100, offering additional exclusive in-game content.
