Grand Theft Auto 6, anticipated to be the year's biggest release, will impose a strict 170-day limit for code redemption in Japan, as detailed in a Rockstar Games FAQ.

The upcoming title's product codes for Japanese consumers will expire 170 days after their issuance date, which is set for November 19, 2026. This timeframe amounts to just under six months from the game's launch, after which the codes will become invalid.

This expiration policy is attributed to regional regulations specific to Japan and currently applies only to that territory. While many digital codes have finite redemption periods, this explicit, short window for a major physical game release is unusual. For comparison, 170 days is roughly equivalent to a tourist season, certain academic school years, or the lifespan of honey under ideal storage conditions.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently slated for a console release, with no PC version announced at launch. A former Rockstar employee suggested that a console-first approach allows the development team to produce a more refined PC port later on. Despite the absence of a PC version, the game is projected to generate significant revenue, with estimates suggesting global sales could range from $3.3 billion to $5.2 billion in its first week.
