Twitch CEO Dan Clancy anticipates an enormous launch for Grand Theft Auto 6 this November, advising other game companies to steer clear of competing for attention during that period. He also predicts that GTA 6's multiplayer mode, or a potential GTA Online 2, will capture even more of the internet's focus upon its release next year.
Clancy shared in a Bloomberg interview that he has been in communication with Rockstar Games regarding their upcoming title and their strategies for engaging creators on Twitch. "You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer," Clancy stated.
While Rockstar has not officially announced a GTA Online 2 or its release window, speculation suggests its arrival sometime after the main game's November launch. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously indicated that the company has a history of supporting legacy titles, citing the simultaneous operation of NBA 2K Online and NBA 2K Online 2 in China. "We did not sunset Online 1. They both are still in the market and they serve consumers and they're alive and we have this massive audience," Zelnick said, suggesting that a new GTA Online iteration might not necessarily render the current one obsolete if a community remains engaged.
This approach could mean that GTA Online may continue to be supported even after GTA 6's release. It is noteworthy that GTA 6 is launching exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Players on PC will only have access to GTA 5 and its online component, or will need to engage with GTA 6 on consoles.
Recent weeks have seen further teases related to GTA 6, including the confirmation of several artists contributing to the soundtrack and actor Stephen Root confirming his involvement in the cast. Rockstar has not officially revealed the game's voice actors, leaving much of the casting to fan speculation ahead of the November release.
