GTA 6 Launch Trailer Highlights Jason's Past, Lucia's Ankle Tag, and Vice City's Dangers

Rockstar Games has unveiled the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, providing new cinematic footage of protagonists Jason and Lucia, alongside glimpses of the game's open world. The 1 minute and 30-second trailer explores elements of Jason's troubled history, including a difficult departure from the army, and features a notable scene between him and Lucia, who appears to be wearing an ankle tag.

The trailer showcases cinematic action rather than direct gameplay, aligning with the game's impending November 19 launch. A "plays best on PS5" message appears at the trailer's beginning, and footage is noted as being "captured on PS5."

Jason's narration opens the trailer, stating, "I got in some trouble in the army. Didn't leave on the best of terms. They don't give loans or anything to people like me." The trailer shows Jason working at Brian's Marina before receiving a call from Lucia Caminos, potentially signaling his role in picking her up from prison.

Flashbacks or present-day scenes depict Jason in what appears to be a special forces unit during his military service, involved in activities like wading through water and rappelling from a helicopter. These sequences suggest a reason for his proficiency with firearms. The trailer then presents various scenes of Jason and Lucia engaging in criminal activities across Vice City, including a brief shower scene. The visual of Lucia with an ankle tag might indicate initial gameplay limitations on exploration that could be lifted as the story progresses.

One segment in the trailer appears to demonstrate GTA 6's sweat system, showing a character exerting significant effort during a workout. Lucia is heard asking Jason, "Are we gonna be okay?" to which he responds, "We stuck together through everything. Just gotta get through it."

Rockstar's official description for the trailer states: "Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

It has also been confirmed that the electronic duo Justice composed the original score for GTA 6, with their track "Flower in a Hurricane" featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, playing during the trailer. This news follows recent reports concerning a potential leak of the game's ending, details about its sweat system, and confirmation that GTA 6 will be eligible for The Game Awards 2026.
