GTA 6 Map Size and Detail Levels Revealed

The map for Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly nearly as large as the combined map sizes of Rockstar's last three games, according to details revealed in the latest issue of Edge magazine. The game's world, Leonida, is set to feature Vice City and its surrounding areas, with the total playable space rivaling that of Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Beyond sheer scale, Rockstar Games is emphasizing the density and detail within the world. Co-studio head Aaron Garbut stated that Grand Theft Auto 6 will include "an order of magnitude more interiors" than previous titles. This focus extends to every aspect of the environment, with Garbut adding that "every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others," suggesting a high level of interactivity and environmental storytelling. The developers have reportedly learned from player feedback on Grand Theft Auto 5, aiming to ensure that even the more sparsely populated areas of Leonida offer engaging experiences.

Garbut indicated that even after extensive development, there remain unexplored areas within the game world. This commitment to detail aims to create a world rich with discoverable elements, from environmental gags on billboards to the smaller, incidental details of street life. The depth of design suggests players will find plenty to engage with across Leonida.

While official information regarding a PC release date remains unannounced, rumors suggest a shorter wait than in previous Rockstar titles. Historically, PC versions of Rockstar games have launched several months to over a year after their console debut, with Grand Theft Auto 5 taking eighteen months to reach PC players.
