Grand Theft Auto 6 will receive a multiplayer component, according to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, who stated that Rockstar Games plans to launch the online portion of the highly anticipated title "next year." This revelation emerged during a recent interview with Bloomberg, where Clancy discussed engagement strategies for content creators on the streaming platform.
While Rockstar Games initially described GTA 6 as a "single-player experience" during its pricing and preorder details release, the widespread expectation of a multiplayer mode has persisted, largely due to the continued profitability of GTA Online. Clancy's comments suggest that this online component will not be available at launch. He noted that Twitch anticipates a significant viewership increase upon GTA 6's release, but expects an "even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer."
This timeline implies that GTA 6's multiplayer could debut as early as January 2027, approximately two months after the game's scheduled launch on November 19, 2026. For comparison, GTA Online launched two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 5, while Red Dead Online arrived seven months after Red Dead Redemption 2. It remains unlikely that Rockstar will discontinue support for GTA Online following the release of GTA 6.
Rockstar Games has not yet issued an official statement addressing Clancy's remarks. Meanwhile, a vinyl and CD soundtrack for Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be released on the same day as the game. Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
