GTA 6 Online Component Could Arrive Early 2027, Bank Suggests

Bank of America analysts believe a successor to Grand Theft Auto V's highly profitable online mode could launch in the first quarter of 2027, a development they see as a major catalyst for Take-Two Interactive's stock.

The financial institution has maintained a "buy" rating on Take-Two, with a price target of $330 per share, representing a potential upside of over 60% from current trading levels. This outlook is contingent on investor recognition of the substantial revenue potential from a revamped GTA Online experience, which is expected to accompany Grand Theft Auto VI.

While Rockstar Games has officially characterized GTA 6 as a single-player experience at launch, the expectation of a robust multiplayer component, similar to its predecessor, is widespread. GTA Online has been a persistent and significant revenue generator for Take-Two through its in-game microtransactions. Analysts anticipate that a new iteration for GTA 6 could further capitalize on player engagement and spending.

The projected early 2027 release window for this online component aligns with the potential arrival of a PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI. Such a staggered release strategy, mirroring the launches of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II which initially lacked online support, could maximize revenue streams.

Take-Two's stock has experienced a decline of 21% year-to-date, recently falling below $200 per share after reaching a 52-week high of $265. Despite these market challenges, Bank of America suggests the company's stock remains undervalued, particularly when considering the anticipated performance of GTA 6 and its accompanying online services.

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game's massive file size was recently revealed, highlighting the scale of the upcoming title.
