Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for a November 2025 console release, but PC players may face a significantly shorter wait for their version than in previous Rockstar titles. According to industry sources speaking with GamesBeat, the PC port of GTA 6 is reportedly on track to launch "within the first three months" of 2027, a mere few months after the game's initial console debut.
This accelerated PC release timeline would represent a notable shift for Rockstar Games. For comparison, Grand Theft Auto 5 arrived on PC approximately 18 months after its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 launch. Similarly, the PC version of Red Dead Redemption launched 11 months after its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously acknowledged the growing importance of the PC platform for the company, noting a substantial increase in sales for its PC games over recent years. The strategic decision to prioritize a console launch before a PC release could be attributed to development considerations. Former Rockstar producer John Ricchio theorized that a console-first approach allows developers to create a more robust PC version later, leveraging the typically more powerful hardware of PCs rather than scaling down for console limitations.
Rockstar Games has not yet officially commented on the PC release of Grand Theft Auto 6. The game's official listings currently specify only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as its available platforms. Additionally, Xbox recently clarified that GTA 6 will not be accessible via Xbox Cloud Gaming on PC, contrary to earlier speculation regarding exclusive streaming rights.
