Preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI, which began in late June, have already generated immense demand, with industry experts estimating that sales could cover the game's substantial production and marketing expenses. Sensor Tower, a research and analytics firm specializing in the gaming sector, projects that GTA 6 could achieve around 25 million preorders by its release date.

According to Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of video game insights at Sensor Tower, this volume of preorders would translate to approximately $2 billion in revenue. Kontus indicated that this figure would likely cover the game's development costs and a significant portion of its marketing budget. While Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have not publicly disclosed the exact financial figures for GTA 6's production or marketing, it is widely understood that the game represents a considerable investment.

Kontus highlighted that the primary marketing campaign for GTA 6 has yet to fully commence, with a significant push expected around the August 27 trailer release on Netflix. He further anticipates that the majority of preorders will occur in the final week leading up to the game's launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Regarding pricing, Kontus suggested that while initial preorder data may favor the more expensive $100 edition, the final distribution could settle closer to a 50/50 split between the $80 and $100 versions. He praised Take-Two and Rockstar's strategy in designing the $100 Ultimate Edition, noting that its included exclusive items, such as vehicles, weapons, and a custom mod shop, offer genuine value beyond mere cosmetic enhancements. This approach aims to incentivize players to invest in the premium package for the full experience.

GTA 6 is anticipated to be a dominant release in 2026, with potential for further momentum upon the launch of a new iteration of GTA Online. The game is slated for release on November 19.
