Rockstar Games has officially opened preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI, confirming new details and releasing fresh screenshots.

GTA 6 Pricing and Editions

The Standard Edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is priced at $79.99, representing a $10 increase over the standard price for AAA games this generation. An Ultimate Edition is also available for $99.99, which includes exclusive in-game content. This pricing has already ignited debate among players regarding the value proposition and the content included in the more expensive edition.

Physical Release and Digital Codes

Contrary to what some may expect, the physical edition of GTA 6 will not include a disc. Instead, the game box will contain a download code. While rumors suggest a disc version might be released later, possibly for the holiday season, Rockstar has not officially confirmed this. The company has not yet responded to inquiries about its decision to move away from discs for this release, though industry analysts suggest it is a commercially sound decision.

Scalping and Fan-Made Merchandise

Almost immediately following the preorder announcement, scalpers began listing the game on platforms like eBay at inflated prices. Although the PS5 version briefly sold out on Amazon, it has since been restocked. Players are advised to purchase the game at its face value or lower to avoid supporting scalpers. The high demand has also led to fans creating and selling their own physical editions, such as a fan-made 'GTA 6 Collector's Edition Display Set' available on Etsy for $55, which includes a custom case and disc.

Trailer Release and Marketing Strategy

Fans had hoped that a third trailer would accompany the preorder launch, but it was not released on June 24 or June 25. While the absence of new video assets before a major release is unusual, Rockstar's marketing approach for GTA 6 appears to be unconventional. It remains to be seen if a third trailer will be released at all before the game's launch.

Console Availability Concerns

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. With the game launching on current-generation consoles, there are concerns about hardware availability. Reports indicate that a major game retailer has warned of insufficient console stock to meet demand during the upcoming holiday period, citing ongoing issues with hardware component availability. This could make it difficult for players to acquire a console in time to play GTA 6.
