Grand Theft Auto VI has reportedly generated over $400 million in revenue from preorders alone, according to an analysis by third-party research firm Sensor Tower. The firm's sales tracker indicates that Rockstar Games has sold approximately 4.38 million copies, including any returns, as of August 18.

The sales mix for these preorders is estimated to be 77% for the PlayStation 5 version and 23% for the Xbox Series X|S version. While this data has not been officially confirmed by Take-Two Interactive, the company has previously stated that GTA 6 preorder numbers are unprecedented within the video game industry.

Preorders for the game, which were initially made available on June 25, offer a standard edition priced at $80 and an Ultimate Edition at $100. Currently, the more expensive Ultimate Edition is seeing higher demand among consumers.

Industry analysts anticipate that preorder numbers will continue to rise significantly as the launch date approaches, with a substantial portion expected in the final week before release. One projection suggests that GTA 6 could achieve 25 million preorders by launch, potentially generating around $2 billion in revenue, a figure sufficient to cover the game's development and most marketing costs.

Rockstar's official marketing campaign for GTA 6 is slated to commence with a trailer on Netflix on August 27. Following multiple delays, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented that the pricing strategy, with the standard edition at $80, was intended to make the game accessible to a wider audience, a notable increase from the $60 launch price of GTA 5 in 2013, which would equate to approximately $85 today when adjusted for inflation.
