Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has reaffirmed that the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI remains on track for November 19. The company stated that the forthcoming "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" is expected to further cultivate player passion and anticipation for the highly awaited title.
During its financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, Take-Two announced strong performance, with the Grand Theft Auto series exceeding expectations. Grand Theft Auto V has now sold over 230 million copies worldwide, contributing to a 3% overall growth for the franchise through microtransactions. This places Grand Theft Auto V as the second best-selling video game of all time, trailing only Minecraft.
Take-Two noted a continuous build-up of global excitement for Grand Theft Auto VI, citing an "exceptional start to preorders." While specific preorder numbers and revenue were not disclosed, recent analyses estimate that the game generated approximately $180 million in digital preorders across the U.S. and major European markets shortly after preorders went live on June 25. The company's overall revenue for the quarter reached $1.39 billion, surpassing its earlier projections of $1.32 to $1.37 billion.
The company also addressed the upcoming "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look," which will be exclusively available on Netflix for six hours on August 27th. Take-Two expressed confidence that this extended preview will significantly amplify consumer interest leading up to the game's November 19 launch.
Beyond Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K also contributed significantly to Take-Two's financial results, with Recurrent Consumer Spending (microtransactions) growing by 7%. The franchise concluded a record year, with NBA 2K titles selling in over 12 million units, showing a 9% increase compared to NBA 2K25. Take-Two attributed this success to Visual Concepts' ability to innovate and maintain player engagement through live-service execution.
Looking ahead, Take-Two anticipates the current fiscal year to be an "inflection point" for the company, laying the groundwork for future success and the creation of groundbreaking entertainment experiences. The company reiterated its revenue forecast of $8 billion to $8.2 billion for the fiscal year, a projection largely fueled by the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI. The expected revenue breakdown by label is approximately 37% from Rockstar Games, 34% from Zynga, and 29% from 2K.
