Rockstar Games has announced that the third trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, with an unconventional streaming debut planned for Netflix. This marks a significant departure from typical video game marketing strategies.

The open-world crime game, which will return the series to a Vice City-inspired setting, has maintained immense hype despite a lack of extensive gameplay footage. The first trailer, released in December 2023, has garnered nearly 300 million views on YouTube, while the second trailer from May 2025 achieved close to 200 million views.

Rockstar Games is known for its distinct approach to promotion, often deviating from the standard roadmap of teasers, gameplay reveals, and curated previews employed by many developers. The studio tends to keep details guarded, revealing gameplay footage closer to a game's release.

The decision to premiere the trailer on Netflix, a platform with which Rockstar has an existing relationship through the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, is an unexpected element. This choice may stem from security concerns, particularly after the first GTA 6 trailer leaked and was released earlier than planned. Alternatively, Rockstar might aim to showcase the game's visuals on larger screens, as Netflix data indicates a significant portion of its audience streams on televisions rather than mobile devices.

The benefit for Netflix itself in hosting this exclusive debut remains unclear, beyond a potential short-term subscriber boost. The trailer will be made available on YouTube and Rockstar's official website just six hours after its Netflix premiere, at 9 p.m. ET, diminishing the impact of any platform exclusivity.

Fans had speculated about the trailer's release date throughout the summer, with hopes it would arrive in May, late June, or early July. The August 27 date places the debut amidst a busy period for gaming news, immediately preceding Gamescom's Opening Night Live stream on August 25. However, Grand Theft Auto 6's trailer is expected to capture significant attention, regardless of its release timing or platform.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
