As Grand Theft Auto 6 preorders are set to go live on June 25, many fans anticipate the release of a third trailer. However, based on Rockstar Games' historical marketing patterns, this third trailer may not arrive this week.
During the promotional cycle for Grand Theft Auto 5, preorders opened on November 5, 2012, approximately ten months before the game's release. At that time, Rockstar announced an upcoming trailer, which was subsequently released nine days later on November 14, 2012, featuring the protagonists Franklin, Trevor, and Michael. For Grand Theft Auto 4, the box art was unveiled on November 28, 2007, but the third trailer did not become public until December 6, 2007, eight days later.
Applying these patterns to Grand Theft Auto 6 suggests that the third trailer could still be some time away. If Rockstar adheres to a similar marketing schedule, another official look at the game might not occur until the first week of July. The gap between the first and second trailers for GTA 5 was 378 days, with the second and third trailers separated by 168 days. For GTA 6, the interval between the first and second trailers has already significantly surpassed that at 519 days. As of now, 414 days have passed since the second trailer's release.
It is important to note that Rockstar's marketing approach has not been entirely consistent across its titles. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2's third trailer was released a full month before preorders became available, indicating that the company does not strictly follow a single strategy for all its game launches. Therefore, while historical precedent suggests a delay, the possibility remains that a third trailer, character-focused trailers, or a story trailer could still be released alongside the preorder launch.
