The recent extended trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, a collaboration between Netflix and Rockstar Games, has been credited with a substantial increase in Netflix subscriptions in the United States. According to Ampere Analysis, the 26-minute trailer drove more than 100,000 new subscriber sign-ups in the US on the day of its release.
Ampere Analysis identified the trailer as the third-biggest driver of new Netflix subscriber sign-ups in 2026, trailing only the final season of Stranger Things and a notable MMA fight featuring Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. Furthermore, the analysis indicated that over 5% of US Netflix members who had not engaged with the service in the 30 days prior to the trailer's release returned to watch it, a reactivation rate reportedly higher than any other content on the platform during that period.
Louise Wooldridge of Ampere Analysis stated that the significant subscriber increase from a limited six-hour window highlights the draw of major gaming events. For Netflix, this partnership presents an opportunity to compete for gamer attention against platforms like YouTube and re-engage lapsed viewers. For Rockstar Games, the collaboration with Netflix extends the reach of Grand Theft Auto VI to audiences beyond the franchise's established core demographic.
The extended trailer provided an in-depth look at the upcoming title, showcasing a variety of gameplay sequences and cutscenes, and hinting at new features. Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Notably, players in the United States are expected to be among the last globally to access the game.
