Netflix confirmed that the recent "extended look" trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI was its most-viewed title globally last week, accumulating 31.1 million views. The trailer, categorized by Netflix as an "English-language film," secured the number one spot in 87 out of 93 tracked regions worldwide, according to Variety.

This viewership figure placed the GTA 6 trailer significantly ahead of the second most-viewed title, the movie "The Whisper Man," which garnered 23.2 million viewers. Netflix defines a "view" as the total hours viewed divided by the total runtime of a title. This data is published weekly by Netflix, typically on Tuesdays.

The extended trailer was initially released on Netflix before appearing on Rockstar's official YouTube channel and other platforms six hours later. While Rockstar's YouTube video has garnered 17 million views, YouTube's viewership counting methods differ, and this figure represents only one channel among many hosting the trailer, including publications like GameSpot.

Netflix described its partnership with Rockstar Games for the trailer's debut as a "first-of-its-kind" offering. The streaming giant has been actively pursuing various strategies to boost user engagement and total watching time, particularly following its departure from a deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Beyond this collaboration for the GTA 6 trailer, Netflix has also expanded into video podcasts and is reportedly in discussions to add content from Fox One and Peacock to its platform, with further reports suggesting the potential addition of free ad-supported television content.

Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
