Rockstar Games' marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto VI is underway, featuring television commercials that eagle-eyed fans have begun to scrutinize. These commercials, while ostensibly promoting the highly anticipated title, contain subtle alterations when compared to the initial launch trailer and longer versions of the ads.
One notable change observed in a 30-second TV spot is the omission of steamy shower scenes featuring protagonists Lucia and Jason. However, this shorter edit includes slightly extended sequences of an airplane journey and a moment where Jason playfully nudges Lucia next to their car, causing her to nearly lose her balance. Additionally, the Xbox logo has been removed from these spots, a decision likely related to Rockstar's reported promotional agreement with Sony.
A 90-second version of the commercial has also surfaced, which does include the previously removed shower scenes, alongside the slightly longer car and airplane sequences found in the 30-second spot. Dedicated fan accounts have been instrumental in highlighting these minute differences.
Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Interestingly, the television advertisements do not explicitly mention the Xbox release. Rockstar's promotional efforts also extend to real-world activations, such as the creation of Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell restaurants offering game-branded food.
In other news regarding the game, recent reports indicate that pre-orders for GTA 6 are significantly outpacing those of other major AAA titles released in the past five years. The game is widely expected to be a monumental release, potentially generating $2 billion in revenue even before its official launch.
