Grand Theft Auto VI will not be available to stream to PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming when it launches on consoles this November, Microsoft has officially confirmed. This clarification addresses earlier reports that suggested Xbox had secured exclusive streaming rights for Rockstar's highly anticipated title.
Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, stated that while the excitement for Grand Theft Auto VI and Xbox is understandable, it has led to some inaccurate reporting. "We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC," Ball said in a statement to The Verge.
The original report from The Verge, citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, had claimed that the company had obtained exclusive streaming rights for GTA 6. This was reportedly fueled by comments from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who allegedly told employees that Microsoft was preparing a significant, unique offering for GTA 6. Such an arrangement could have provided PC players with an avenue to play the game at launch, as Rockstar has yet to announce a PC version, with the game officially confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This news arrives as Xbox Cloud Gaming is undergoing changes in November, including the introduction of a pay-as-you-go option and adjustments to cloud gaming time allocations across Game Pass tiers.
