Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not feature a spoof of Walt Disney World, a popular Florida tourist destination. When asked by Game Informer if Central Florida's tourist areas, including Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, would be represented, Rockstar's Jack McPherson stated that these specific locations would not be included.
McPherson emphasized that despite the absence of these particular landmarks, Grand Theft Auto 6 is designed to deliver the "full Florida experience" through a diverse range of landscapes, towns, and structures. The development team meticulously evaluates and selects elements that best serve the game's design and narrative needs. This approach means that while direct equivalents of certain real-world attractions might be omitted, the game world will still capture the essence of the Sunshine State.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will also not include a parody of SeaWorld or Florida's "Space Coast," which is home to Cape Canaveral. The game is set in Vice City, a fictionalized version of Miami, which is located approximately four hours and 230 miles away from Orlando, the home of these attractions. Given the vast scale of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set to feature the largest map Rockstar has ever created, it was unlikely to encompass such a distant region.
Prior to this confirmation, there had been speculation about Rockstar creating its own legally distinct theme park parody, with former Grand Theft Auto 5 voice actor Jay Klaitz, who voiced Lester, suggesting a potential "Psycho Park" could be an interesting addition. While a dedicated theme park area might not materialize, it remains possible that the game could reference Disney World through in-game radio chatter or subtle narrative elements, poking fun at aspects like rising ticket prices, in-park costs, or the "Disney Adult" phenomenon.
This approach is consistent with Rockstar's past work. Grand Theft Auto 5, which was set in the Los Angeles area where Disneyland is located, did not include a playable theme park spoof, though it did feature "Fred's Pictures," an apparent nod to Disney's film production ventures.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
