GTA Online to Continue Post-GTA 6 Launch, PC Support Growing

Rockstar Games intends to continue supporting Grand Theft Auto Online "beyond" the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, according to parent company Take-Two Interactive. The confirmation came during a recent shareholders meeting, where the company stated its commitment to ongoing support for GTA Online irrespective of the new title's release.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is confirmed to be a single-player experience upon its November release, meaning players seeking online Grand Theft Auto action will need to turn to the existing iteration of GTA Online. The future format of GTA Online post-GTA 6, whether bundled with the new title or released as a separate purchase, remains unclear.

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has expressed belief that a multiplayer component for GTA 6 will arrive in 2027, anticipating a significant surge in player engagement. Clancy stated he had discussions with Rockstar regarding their plans and creator engagement, predicting a larger player bump in 2027 with the multiplayer launch than with GTA 6 itself.

Regarding the PC version of Grand Theft Auto 6, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the company's general strategy to launch games on platforms with a substantial audience. "The PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time," Zelnick noted, suggesting a future PC release is likely, though potentially staggered as is historically the case with Rockstar titles. Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to maintain significant popularity on PC, indicating a strong market for a future PC iteration.

Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio previously explained that the studio's approach of initially skipping PC releases is not driven by greed but by a desire to optimize for consoles first. This method allows for scaling up to PC capabilities rather than the more difficult process of shrinking a game's performance for consoles. It is plausible that a PC version could coincide with a future GTA Online iteration, especially if a considerable time gap exists between console and PC releases.

In related news, Rockstar Games announced "Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album," a soundtrack featuring over 30 original songs from prominent artists, set to release alongside the game on November 19. Six tracks from artists including Travis Scott, PinkPantheress, and Morgan Wallen are currently available for streaming.
