The upcoming Street Fighter movie is set to embrace the absurdity of its source material, and a crucial element being highlighted is the franchise's iconic sound, particularly Guile's theme music. The legendary track, celebrated for its meme-worthy versatility, has been revisited for the film's score.
The original "Guile's Theme" debuted with the 1991 arcade release of Street Fighter II and was composed by Yoko Shimomura. For the new movie, composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, known for their work on "Cobra Kai," produced the score. They stated that the original game soundtracks were highly influential in their musical development, with Birenberg and Robinson noting they listened to Shimomura's "Guile's Theme" extensively during their formative years as composers.
"We hope fans will hear the love and reverence we hold for this music within our version of Guile’s Theme," the duo commented in a press statement. The new rendition reportedly features a guitar solo and other cinematic adjustments while maintaining the integrity of the original melody.
The full Street Fighter movie soundtrack will include 39 tracks and is scheduled for release on October 16, coinciding with the film's premiere. Actor Cody Rhodes, a WWE performer, is cast as Guile in the movie. In a nod to the character, official Street Fighter popcorn buckets shaped like Guile's distinctive hair are also available.
The Street Fighter movie follows Resident Evil, another film based on a Capcom video game series, which recently achieved critical success and set franchise records commercially.
