Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he plays the popular mobile game Angry Birds "every day of my life." Speaking with IGN as part of its IGN30 Icon Series, del Toro, a known gaming enthusiast, detailed a range of titles that have left a significant impact on him. While he gushed about many games, Angry Birds emerged as a surprising, consistent favorite.
Del Toro discussed several games that have resonated with him, citing Journey, Left 4 Dead, and Monument Valley among his cherished titles. He also shared emotional reactions to other experiences, stating that "Death Stranding made me cry" and that "Shadow of the Colossus made me introspective about so many intangible things." The world of BioShock also proved captivating, with del Toro noting it as "a world I could get lost in for ages."
Despite his appreciation for narrative-driven and atmospheric games, del Toro's most frequently played title remains the vibrant and fast-paced Angry Birds. "I’m really good at it," he admitted.
Another game that captured del Toro's interest was Dead Cells. However, he expressed a humorous request for the developers: a version of the game without respawning mechanics, specifically for older players. "Please, do a version without respawning for the older, for the elderly players. I’m available. Contact me and send it to me, please. I beg you!" he stated.
Guillermo del Toro's full interview is slated for publication later this year as part of the IGN30 Icons series. Previously, the series featured an episode with Ken Levine, creator of BioShock.
