Halo: Campaign Evolved, the recent Unreal Engine 5 remake of the campaign portion of Halo: Combat Evolved, has sold an estimated 1.2 million copies across Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. These sales figures, which place the game's revenue at approximately $67 million after two weeks on the market, have been described as "soft" by Alinea Analytics.
The sales breakdown estimates platform purchases at 42% for Xbox, 41% for PlayStation 5, and 17% for Steam. According to Alinea's Rhys Elliott, the pricing may be too high for a package that omits competitive multiplayer and offers less content than Halo: The Master Chief Collection, which is priced similarly at $40 but includes multiplayer and is available to PC players.
Elliott suggested that the PlayStation sales were driven by an older audience seeking nostalgia rather than attracting new players to the franchise on that platform. He further noted that a PlayStation release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, complete with multiplayer, would likely have performed better. If a rumored Halo 2 remake includes online multiplayer and is released on PlayStation, it is expected to sell considerably more units.
IGN's review of Halo: Campaign Evolved awarded it a 7 out of 10, acknowledging its solid execution but deeming the remake somewhat unnecessary. Discussions on IGN's "Podcast Unlocked" highlighted a significant absence of the competitive multiplayer that defined Halo's original success, particularly for PlayStation owners who have never experienced it.
