Halo Studios has affirmed its commitment to releasing the previously announced novel "Halo: Fireteam Noble," stating that it is "absolutely our intent" for the project to reach completion. This comes in the wake of significant behind-the-scenes changes at Xbox, including substantial layoffs at Halo Studios and the transfer of the Halo franchise's oversight to Activision.
Franchise writer Alex Wakeford addressed the status of "Halo: Fireteam Noble" and another upcoming story, the novella "Halo: Burn the Road Home," in a recent Halo Waypoint blog post. "Troy [Denning] has written a fantastic story and a good chunk of the editorial process has been conducted," Wakeford stated regarding "Fireteam Noble." "In my remaining time at the studio, I will be doing all I can to ensure this can be achieved." He also expressed a similar resolve for the novella, saying, "we are determined to see this through to completion."
The recent shakeups have naturally cast uncertainty over various Halo projects. While the "Halo Fest" event scheduled for December is proceeding as planned, rumors of a lore reboot by Activision have fueled concerns about the future of "Fireteam Noble" and other in-development literary works that are presumed to align with the current Halo continuity.
"Halo: Fireteam Noble" was originally slated for release next year and is set after the events of "Halo 5." Troy Denning, the author, has contributed to several prominent Halo novels and the "Halo: Campaign Evolved" prequel arc. Details for "Halo: Burn the Road Home" are less defined, but a pre-layoff section of the studio's blog post indicated it was expected to release sometime next year.
The Halo Waypoint post also featured unreleased concept art for Zeta Halo, the ring world featured in "Halo Infinite." These pieces showcased diverse biomes and environments that did not appear in the final game, potentially hinting at ideas considered for future projects. The blog concluded with a poignant farewell from Wakeford, acknowledging the possibility that future authors might continue the "Canon Fodder" series for subsequent narrative endeavors.
