Hatsune Miku is making her debut in Magic: The Gathering with a fully realized Commander deck, set to launch on August 10. This marks the first Universes Beyond Secret Lair Commander Deck, a pre-constructed Selesnya (green-white) offering designed by Carmen Klomparens. The deck centers on life gain and token generation strategies, a playstyle described as fitting for the virtual singer's persona.

Miku herself headlines the deck as "Miku, Song of the People," a new interpretation of Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, illustrated by KEI, the original artist behind Hatsune Miku's software. The deck aims to deploy a large number of creatures, accumulate life, and leverage that advantage to overwhelm opponents. Key cards supporting this strategy include Archangel of Thune, which grants +1/+1 counters based on life gained, and Voice of the Blessed, which grows into a significant threat. Other notable inclusions are Crested Sunmare, which provides indestructible horses; Mirari's Wake for mana acceleration and creature buffs; and Aetherflux Reservoir for a potent finishing move. The deck also features the inclusion of Phyrexian Processor, an unusual but powerful addition.

The release boasts 14 new borderless art treatments from Japanese illustrators, showcasing Miku in various costumes and performance settings. Alongside KEI, artists such as 八三/Hassan and さいとうなおき/Naoki Saito have contributed. Even the basic lands are given a visual upgrade with borderless plains and forests depicting Miku.

The Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Commander Deck will contain 100 cards, including 12 foil borderless cards with new artwork, seven foil borderless basic Plains, and seven foil borderless basic Forests. It also includes 74 non-foil reprints, 10 non-foil double-sided tokens, a deck box, and a display commander featuring Trostani, Selesnya's Voice as "Miku, Song of the People" (though this specific card is not legal in sanctioned play). The deck is priced at $149.99.

This release will also test a significant change to the Secret Lair sales model. Following past controversies, Wizards of the Coast is implementing a 24-hour limited order window for this product. All orders placed between August 10 at 9 a.m. PT and August 11 at 8:59 a.m. PT will be fulfilled. A limited quantity will be available for immediate shipping, while subsequent orders are expected to ship in May 2027 for North America and June 2027 for the EU/UK. This print-to-demand approach will apply to future playable, out-of-the-box products if successful.

According to Matthew Hodgins, the new Secret Lair director, this strategy "harkens back to the early, early days of Secret Lair to meet demand where we think it will be highest—on fully playable products." This initiative could lead to dedicated storefronts for similar Commander decks and specialty releases in the future, offering more opportunities for fans to acquire desired Secret Lair products.
