Development on Haunted Chocolatier has been "very productive" in recent months, according to creator Eric Barone, also known as ConcernedApe. In a recent blog post, Barone shared that working on the upcoming game is his primary focus and that he is eager to continue.
Barone acknowledged that development has been ongoing for several years since the game's initial announcement in 2021. However, he stated that he does not feel pressured by the time commitment and prioritizes the game's quality over arbitrary deadlines. "I won’t compromise on the quality of the game by rushing it or releasing it too early," he explained. He believes that releasing an unfinished product would render all the development time wasted.
Despite the extended development period, Barone expressed satisfaction with the game's current state. He noted that he is "certain" he will enjoy the finished product and already finds enjoyment in playing its unfinished version, especially after implementing recent additions. "I hope others will like it too when it’s ready," he added.
Barone also provided some insight into the scale of Haunted Chocolatier, previously stating that it is intended to be significantly larger than Stardew Valley. He cited an increased number of maps, monsters, a deeper item system, and more equipment slots as contributing factors to this expanded scope. He cautioned that this larger scale means players should anticipate a considerable wait before its release.
While specific details about a release date remain undisclosed, Barone conveyed gratitude for the continued patience of players. He admitted to feeling somewhat embarrassed by the lengthy development and his blog updates, understanding the desire for the game's release. "I really cherish those who do keep the faith," he concluded, wishing his supporters peace and prosperity.
