Haunted Chocolatier Will Be More of an Action RPG, Says ConcernedApe

Developer Eric Barone, known as ConcernedApe, has provided new details on his upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier, confirming it will lean more heavily into action RPG elements than his previous hit, Stardew Valley. Barone stated in a recent interview with GQ that while the game is still a "town game," its primary focus will be on adventuring, character progression, and combat.

Barone explained that players can expect a greater emphasis on finding equipment, increasing their power, and engaging in battles, including boss fights. He described these elements as being for players who enjoyed the mine exploration in Stardew Valley. Despite the increased action, Barone indicated that Haunted Chocolatier will retain the cozy feel of Stardew Valley, centering on running a chocolate business and interacting with local townsfolk.

Barone also touched upon the game's development timeline, acknowledging that he announced Haunted Chocolatier in 2021 perhaps a bit too early. He has been working on the game as a solo endeavor, much like Stardew Valley, and has not allowed anyone else to play it yet. He likened the development process to baking a turkey, emphasizing that it will be ready when he decides it is, rather than rushing the process. A release date for Haunted Chocolatier has not yet been announced.
