HBO has unveiled key casting for the second season of its Harry Potter series, announcing that Lenny Rush will portray Dobby the House-elf, Billy Barratt will play a young Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort), and newcomer Bonnie Hill has been cast as Ginny Weasley. Production on the second season, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is currently underway.
Rush, a 17-year-old British actor, is known for his roles in the children's TV series The Dumping Ground and episodes of Doctor Who and Taskmaster. Barratt, 18, is also set to appear in Amazon Prime's adaptation of the video game Life is Strange, where he plays antagonist Nathan Prescott, and was recently seen in Kraven the Hunter. Hill is a new talent taking on the role of Ginny Weasley, a character whose initial actress departed the series after the first season.
Other returning cast members for the second season include Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. It was previously announced that Kit Harington will portray Gilderoy Lockhart, a role originally intended for Nicholas Hoult.
The first season of the Harry Potter series is scheduled to premiere this Christmas and will conclude in early 2027. HBO has indicated that the show will not follow an annual release schedule, with episodes filmed this year likely to air in 2028.
