Don't expect Helldivers 3 anytime soon, if at all. Pilestedt views the player base as the driving force behind a game's longevity, generating buzz through memes and word-of-mouth, which negates the need for a traditional sequel.
Pilestedt commented on the broader industry trend, suggesting that many studios are struggling as older live-service tactics are becoming less effective. He explained that a hypothetical Helldivers 3 would need to be significantly different from its predecessor to justify its existence alongside Helldivers 2. "The biggest competitor to a Helldivers 3 would be Helldivers 2," he noted, emphasizing that focusing on improving the existing game is currently the more sensible approach. The vast majority of Arrowhead's development resources, 95%, are dedicated to Helldivers 2, with a small team working on future projects.
While a new installment in the Helldivers game series is not on the immediate horizon, a Helldivers movie is reportedly in development. Alan Ritchson is attached to star in the film adaptation.
