Helldivers 2 is transitioning to Easy Anti-Cheat, replacing the previously implemented GameGuard. Arrowhead Game Studios acknowledged that GameGuard "wasn't as effective as it could have been" in a statement on the game's Steam page. The developers stated that Easy Anti-Cheat, an industry standard used in over 200 games, is believed to be a more effective solution for protecting the game's integrity and ensuring fair play.
This change will necessitate updates for certain non-malicious mods, particularly those that alter game appearance or function in ways that could impact other players. Arrowhead expressed appreciation for the creativity behind cosmetic and non-gameplay-affecting mods, but emphasized the need to protect against modifications that provide unfair advantages. Players who believe a non-malicious mod has been blocked by Easy Anti-Cheat are encouraged to contact the developers via Zendesk. The studio anticipates a transitional period but hopes that most community-appreciated mods will function correctly again soon.
Helldivers 2 remains unavailable in the UK due to an ongoing, unresolved issue that the developers are addressing with Valve.
