Helldivers 2, the breakout hit from Arrowhead Studios, has been added to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers starting today. This surprise inclusion means subscribers can now access the cooperative alien-blasting shooter without an additional purchase.

The game's inclusion in the subscription service arrives alongside the launch of its latest expansion, "Devoid of Liberty." This new content introduces Illuminate spires and gateways, data reconnaissance missions, and infiltration objectives for teams to tackle. The expansion also brings new enemies described as "ghoulish diversions" created by the Illuminate, and introduces 300 new ranks with associated privileges and titles for players to unlock.

A press release detailed that entering "the Void" presents unique challenges, with High Command ordering reconnaissance missions to gather intelligence. Planets near the Void have reportedly been altered by strange mutations, with these changes becoming more significant the closer they are to the Void itself.

In celebration of the game's addition to PlayStation Plus, two community challenges are underway. The Helldivers 2 community is tasked with collectively eliminating 500 million enemies by August 18th, with the reward for success being four Helldiver PlayStation avatars.

Since its launch in 2024, Helldivers 2 has achieved significant sales figures, reaching 20 million copies sold. The title also saw a strong reception on Xbox when it launched in September 2025, selling 926,000 copies in its first six days. Prior to its PlayStation Plus addition, Helldivers 2 had already become PlayStation's fastest-selling game ever, surpassing initial expectations for the publisher.
