Helldivers 2 has been added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, offering subscribers to the Extra and Premium tiers unfettered access to the cooperative shooter. This launch coincides with the release of the game's latest major update, dubbed "Devoid of Liberty."
The "Devoid of Liberty" update introduces new threats to the game's war front, with the Illuminate expanding their presence and causing mutations on various planets. Players will face new challenges, including destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, conducting data reconnaissance, and infiltrating enemy structures. A new ally in the fight comes in the form of the Super Earth Armed Forces (SEAF), which can now appear as a planet modifier, assisting Helldivers in combat with new equipment such as stim pistols and heavy machine guns.
New Enemy Types and Objectives
The update also brings new secondary objectives for players. These include eradicating "Void mutations" and extracting research materials. To facilitate faster exfiltration, secondary extraction zones have also been added. The Void mutations present unique combat encounters:
The Crusher is described as a heavily damaging enemy capable of regeneration, requiring sustained and aggressive offensive pressure to overcome. The Wretch is a swift and evasive foe that players must target with quick reflexes and precise aim to prevent it from disabling their weapons and compromising their will to fight.
Helldivers 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. PlayStation Plus Essential, which provides access to the monthly games, is priced at $10.99 per month, with longer subscription periods offering reduced rates.
