McDonald's is set to release a highly anticipated collaboration featuring eight toys that blend Sanrio's beloved Hello Kitty characters with iconic monsters from the Godzilla film franchise. The promotion will begin on August 18 at participating McDonald's locations across the United States.
The fast-food giant revealed the complete list of toys on August 12, alongside a special Godzilla-themed Happy Meal box. The collection includes:
- Hello Kitty x Godzilla
- My Melody x Mothra
- Kuromi x Mechagodzilla
- Keroppi x King Ghidora
- Badz-Maru x Rodan
- Cinnamoroll x Destoroyah
- Chococat x Spacegodzilla
- Pompompurin x Gigan
This partnership offers a diverse range of characters, with Chococat and Badz-Maru being less common in major collaborations. Similarly, the inclusion of Kaiju such as Destoroyah and Gigan marks a notable inclusion for a mainstream Godzilla toy line.
The announcement has generated considerable excitement among fans of both Kaiju and Sanrio. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential for scalpers to disrupt the promotion. Past McDonald's Happy Meal promotions, particularly those involving Pokémon, have seen scalpers acquire exclusive items in large quantities, leading to resales at significantly inflated prices and instances of food waste, as observed in Japan in 2025 and with a Target collaboration in 2026.
This is not the first time McDonald's has partnered with Hello Kitty for a cross-franchise promotion; in 2024, McDonald's Belgium released a line of Hello Kitty x Yu-Gi-Oh! toys.
