Blizzard is set to introduce Xal'atath, a new character for its MOBA Heroes of the Storm. This marks the first new playable character to be added to the game since Warcraft's Hogger was released in 2020, breaking a four-year hiatus for new additions. The developers confirmed the upcoming character during the BlizzCon Opening Ceremony.

Xal'atath will initially be available on the Public Test Realm starting this Monday, September 14, with a full release scheduled for September 28. The character's impending arrival comes as Blizzard appears to be shifting focus back to its long-running MOBA, which had largely seen only balance updates and cosmetic additions in recent years.

While Xal'atath's introduction might be a singular event, the developers have hinted at the possibility of future character additions. The addition of new playable characters represents a significant substance of change for Heroes of the Storm, a game that has seen its development priorities shift in the years following Hogger's launch in 2020.
