Blizzard has announced the addition of a new hero to Heroes of the Storm, Xal'atath, marking a significant surprise for the game which has seen minimal development for the past four years. Xal'atath, a prominent villain from the current World of Warcraft narrative arc, originates from that game but appears as an elf with a connection to the Void, aiming to consume the planet's soul.
The arrival of Xal'atath is notable for fans of Heroes of the Storm, as the game was effectively put on hiatus in 2022. While servers have remained operational, major updates have been absent, with only occasional balance adjustments and bug fixes being implemented. Despite some rumors prior to BlizzCon, significant new content was not widely anticipated until this announcement.
During BlizzCon, Blizzard president Johanna Faries acknowledged the continued support from the game's fanbase. She also hinted at the possibility of more new heroes being introduced in the near future. Xal'atath is scheduled to become available on the Public Test Realms this coming Monday, with a full launch planned for September 28.
