Heroes of the Storm is set to receive its first new hero in six years with the addition of Xal'atath, the Harbinger of the Void. The announcement was made during BlizzCon's opening ceremony, marking a significant update for the MOBA, which had largely been in a state of maintenance mode since 2022.

Xal'atath's arrival signifies a resurgence for the game, which has primarily seen only balance adjustments and bug fixes in recent years. The last hero added to the game was Hogger, released in 2020. This marks the first substantial content update since the shift to a maintenance schedule.

Xal'atath is a character originating from World of Warcraft's Legion expansion, initially appearing as a voice within Shadow Priest artifacts. More recently, she has taken on a prominent antagonistic role in the current Midnight expansion.

Players can expect Xal'atath to become available on the game's Public Test Realm (PTR) this coming Monday. The full release is scheduled for September 28. Blizzard also indicated that another new hero is planned for a future reveal.
