Hideo Kojima Acknowledges Fan-Made PC Port of P.T.

Hideo Kojima has publicly acknowledged a fan-made PC port of P.T., the acclaimed playable teaser for the canceled Silent Hills project. This fan initiative allows the notoriously hard-to-access horror experience to run natively on Windows, making it available to a much wider audience.

P.T., which stood for 'Playable Teaser,' was originally released in August 2014 as a demo for the next Silent Hill installment, a collaboration between Kojima and actor Norman Reedus. Following Kojima's departure from Konami, the title was ultimately scrapped, and the P.T. demo was removed from the PlayStation Store in 2015.

A dedicated modder known as LoreanXavier has spent considerable time reverse-engineering the PlayStation 4 executable to create a PC version. This port is described as a 1:1 recreation, utilizing the game's original assets and employing C++ and Vulcan for PC compatibility. LoreanXavier stated on Discord that the project is approximately 97% complete, retaining the original house, content, scripts, progression, and even the voice-recognition elements.

While initial gameplay footage of the fan port has surfaced online, with fans expressing concern about potential copyright issues and requesting the code be made open-source, the most significant development is Kojima's awareness of the project. He retweeted an article from GameRant detailing the fan-made PC port, indicating his knowledge and apparent endorsement of its existence.

LoreanXavier expressed profound gratitude for the recognition, stating on Twitter/X, "The GOAT himself acknowledged my port. I am speechless. Seeing Hideo Kojima notice something I’ve poured so much time and passion into genuinely means the world to me." Kojima is known to be active online and frequently retweets fan creations related to his work. The revival of P.T. offers a new lease on life for a game that many feared would be lost to time.

Fans are now eagerly anticipating Kojima's next horror title, tentatively known as OD, which is currently in development and features actors Hunter Schafer and Sophia Lillis. The connection between P.T. and OD remains a subject of speculation among the fanbase.
