The universe of Hideo Kojima's acclaimed game Death Stranding is expanding into anime with Death Stranding Isolations, and the first official trailer offers a glimpse into its new narrative. The original net anime is slated for release in 2027 exclusively on Disney Plus.
Death Stranding Isolations will feature original protagonists distinct from those in the Death Stranding games and the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The trailer showcases one of the main characters, a young blonde girl, who appears to be haunted by visions of Beached Things (BTs)—the spectral entities that inhabit the world of the living. The anime's subtitle, "My mom became a crater," directly references the devastating voidouts that occur when BTs consume humans.
The animation for Isolations is being handled by E&H Production, a studio founded by Sunghoo Park, known for his work on Ninja Kamui. The series will be directed by Takyuki Sano, making his directorial debut after extensive experience on projects like Attack on Titan: The Last Attack and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The screenplay is penned by Tow Ubukata, an award-winning novelist and screenwriter recognized for his work on Psycho-Pass 2 and 3.
This anime is one of several projects extending the Death Stranding franchise. A prequel film for A24, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, is also in development. Additionally, an animated feature tentatively titled Death Stranding Mosquito, with Aaron Guzikowski attached to write and Hiroshi Miyamoto directing, released its first trailer in September.
The original Death Stranding game presented a world fractured by a cataclysmic event that blurred the lines between life and the afterlife. Players navigated the role of Sam Porter Bridges, a courier tasked with delivering supplies and rebuilding a network to reconnect isolated colonies. The sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, follows Sam and his allies on an expedition to Australia.
Death Stranding Isolations is set to arrive on Disney Plus in 2027.
