Hideo Kojima's highly anticipated stealth action game, Physint, will no longer be published by PlayStation. Instead, Xbox has stepped in to partner with Kojima Productions on the project, marking a significant shift for the acclaimed developer's relationship with console manufacturers. This change means both of Kojima's upcoming games, Physint and the horror title OD, are now being developed in conjunction with Xbox.

PlayStation officially announced its decision to end its support for Physint, though the company did not provide a specific reason for the withdrawal. In a statement, PlayStation expressed continued admiration for Kojima's vision and a desire for future collaboration with his studio. However, Kojima himself revealed via his personal account that PlayStation had cancelled the project as of mid-June this year. The move to secure Xbox as a publisher was a direct result of Kojima Productions' commitment to seeing Physint through to completion.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma welcomed the partnership, stating that the company is honored Kojima chose Xbox to work with Kojima Productions on Physint. Sharma highlighted that Kojima's ambition to challenge conventions aligns with Xbox's goal of supporting creative endeavors. This collaboration extends beyond gaming, with Xbox also partnering with Kojima Productions across film and television to develop new narrative content for wider audiences.

Kojima assured fans that development on Physint is ongoing and will proceed as planned, despite the change in publishers. The game is described as a return to the action-espionage genre reminiscent of the Metal Gear series. Kojima has indicated that Physint aims to leverage cutting-edge technology to create an immersive experience that blurs the lines between video games and cinema. While the game is still in its early stages of development, this new publishing deal with Xbox signals a clear path forward for the ambitious title.
