Hideo Kojima, the visionary creator behind the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding series, is set to reprise his role as Hideyoshi Oshima in the upcoming anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. CD Projekt Red confirmed the casting news through a social media post, revealing that Kojima will once again portray the braindance director who made an appearance in the game Cyberpunk 2077.
Kojima himself shared his excitement on X/Twitter, stating, "I make a cameo appearance in the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 as Hideyoshi Oshima, the character who appeared in the previous game." He also shared images from his time recording dialogue for the series.
In Cyberpunk 2077, players could encounter Kojima's character, Hideyoshi Oshima, in Konpeki Plaza. This encounter was not directly tied to the main questline and was relatively easy to miss, requiring players to search the area thoroughly. During his in-game dialogue, Oshima discussed his passion for braindances and the exploration of human emotion through them, expressing a desire to "recreate" complex feelings within narratives.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is scheduled to premiere on October 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes of the new season being released simultaneously. The series has received critical acclaim, with IGN awarding the second season a 9/10, describing it as "Amazing" and noting that it "delivers the gory, action-packed goods, even if it doesn’t quite hit the highs of its predecessor."
While Kojima is currently engaged in developing new game projects such as Physint and OD, this cameo marks one of several media appearances he has teased recently, including a role in a "big movie" yet to be revealed.
